So, we had our pre construction meeting last week, and I feel like we got a lot done! But I didn't take any pictures :(
We met our field manager at our land, and after we talked about ourselves for a few minutes we started to stake out where the house is going to be. He had us help him with the measuring and placing the stakes, which I thought was nice of him to make us feel like we were doing something and being a part of the process.
After the stakes were placed, the field manager did some surveying and told us how much brick will probably be showing from the foundation/basement due to the slope of the ground. I believe he said we will be able to see two courses of brick when the house is done. Which is fine with us.
After all that fun we went over some more details, and he let us know some information that we need to find out from our utility contractors. We wrapped everything up there and took a break for lunch, and to make the 45min - hour drive to Delaware to the office.
At the office we went through every detail of the house, and went over every decision we had made to make sure it was what we wanted. From here on out it will be more difficult than just making a note to change something. It didn't take us long to go through everything because we pretty much had our minds made up what we wanted at the color meeting, and we had been e-mailing asking questions. After signing and initialing a bunch of papers, we are one step closer to breaking ground!!! But we still don't have a date until we get closer to our loan closing date :(
Yesterday, we met with the bank and completed our loan application. Hopefully it doesn't take long to go through appraisal and underwriting because WE ARE READY!!! We are hoping we can break ground before the end of June! :) but only time will tell!

After the color meeting
Ok, so we went to the color meeting a few weeks ago. Sorry I didn't update...
We were at the Office from 6:00 pm through about 9:15 pm. We started off by talking about floor plan changes we wanted to make, which might have taken an hour. Then we made good progress picking out siding, doors, fixtures, ext... but when it came to deciding on the kitchen and bathroom counters/cabinets and floors we hit a wall. We aren't exactly sure what we want, so it was hard making these decsions. We went with white laminate cabinets, grey countertops for the kitchen, whitish brown counters for the bathrooms, wood looking laminate floors all downstairs, beige carpet upstairs, and tile looking vinyl floors in all the bathrooms and laundry room.
I really wish we could have got a book or something that showed us what we had to choose from. It was really hard to make a decsion on the spot, especially after we had been working all day. I think there might be some things we change at our next meeting.
May 7th is the date of our site inspection and pre construction meeting. This is when EVERYTHING is finalised, and it will be harder to change things. We meet our feild manager at our land to go over the details and questions about where exactly the house will be placed, and if there will be any additonal costs. Then we make the hour drive to the office (and probably pick up lunch) to go over all the details of the house to make sure everything is where/what we want. We will get final numbers on the cost of the house so that we can get all of our loan paperwork started. I hope it doesn't take long to get approved!
It will be about a month between our color appointment and our preconstruction meeting, so I am guessing they are really busy! I hope that doesn't mean our field manager will be overwhelmed!
Here are some pics of what our house will look like (without some of the porch on the left)
And here is what our cabinets look like: I hoping they aren't too modern for a country kitchen look!

LAND!
Imagine our house way back there by the woods.
Meanwhile. I have had some spring fever! I have been on Pinterest non stop. I have found some goodies I would like to restore. I can't wait until we have the room for all my little projects!

Color Meeting
Just a little update...
We got a call/e-mail from Wayne Homes last week. The earliest we could get in to a color appointment is April 3rd. So in the meantime, I have been on Pinterest non-stop trying to get ideas of how we want everything to look. Kyle and I seem to have the same kind of taste - or he just agrees with everything I say - which ever, there hasn't been an argument over the decor of the house, so I'm thankful for that :)
Our loan is getting worked on, and Kyles parents are working on getting a deed written up so we can change the land over to our name. Kyle also has a call in to the township so they can come out an approve our driveway location. We are lucky all the snow is gone - but now we have to worry about it being too wet and muddy...ugh. such is life...

Getting started...
Hello everyone! I decided to start this blog because I felt like I got a lot of insight from reading other peoples' Wayne Homes blog. Also- It would be nice to share the experience with our friends and family.
So - I'm Ally, and my husband is Kyle. We are recently married, and just signed a contract with Wayne Homes a few days ago. We were in the housing market for a few months, but we knew that we could not get what we wanted for our budget. After some disappointing house tours with our realtor, Kyle's parents decided to give us an advance on our inheritance and give us some of their land so we could build on it. After a few more months of researching and visiting home builders we decided Wayne Homes was our best choice.
It seems that all we hear now from friends and family is "When is your house going to be done?" So this might help keep everyone updated so we don't have to repeat ourselves all the time. Where are we now? We need to get info together to get to our loan guy, and we are waiting for a call to schedule a color appointment to pick out details for the house. If you know how Kyle and I's decision making methods usually go, you can imagine how much fun it is going to be.
